Since beginning martial arts in 2011 with his daughter Paige, Jason Paterson has come to embody the principles and practice of karate – taking everything he’s learnt with open arms.
Five months after enrolling at Success Martial Arts, Jason joined the SMA leadership program and hasn’t looked back.
Sensei Jason, as he is now known, became involved in the SMA Certified Teacher Training Course early, and started teaching at Success Martial Arts before he gained his Black Belt. He is now one of the team of senior teachers of the Success Martial Arts Child, Adult and Family program.
Not only that, but Sensei Jason, in his forties, has become a successful competitor, and an inspiration for many of his students, winning numerous times at the National All Styles competitions on the Gold Coast.
The structure, principles, and mentality that martial arts brings, Jason said, is something that everyone in the community could benefit from.
“If everybody was involved in something like this, the world would be a much better place, more positive attitudes, more confidence, more discipline, more respect.”
He looks to himself as an example – “(Thanks to martial arts) I’m more committed, more patient and much fitter.”
“Once you walk off the mat after a great workout, you are more focused and you feel a higher sense of self esteem and the satisfaction of having improved yourself in so many ways,” Jason said.
“Better still, it feels so good to be helping other people get the same benefits from Success Martial Arts as I have.”
